Nethergate Umbel Ale is a 3.8% ‘speciality’ beer infused with toasted coriander seeds. It tastes largely floral to me, a touch soapy even, with spicy fruit in the aftertaste but only a hint of the coriander or hops (I seem to remember having this from the cask and the coriander being more prominent). I would have this again, perhaps with a curry as they suggest.
It’s brewed in the picturesque Stour Valley near Clare, where it began. I once lived in the next village, Stoke-by-Clare, and was puzzled that the off license right next door to the brewery didn’t stock their beers!
