Seattle’s Oldest Saloon

Arrived in Seattle last night, staying at Pioneer Square, and headed straight for a beer of course. The Central Saloon was established in 1892 after the great fire, making it the oldest saloon in Seattle. A nice old bar that also has live music, although it was a quiet night when we visited, but a friendly and helpful bartender and friendly customers made this a great start to the trip.

The beers were fantastic – RedHook ESB tasted familiar, not surprising as it is modeled on English strong bitters but it was surprisingly easy drinking considering it’s 5.8%. Deschutes Inversion IPA had a sweet balance of hops and malt with a 6.8% kick. We’re heading to Portland now and the home of Deschutes so much more of this to come…
